Effects of Lectins from Alpinia purpurata Inflorescence (ApuL) and Schinus terebinthifolia Leaf (SteLL) on Human Leukemic Cell Lines and Mesenchymal Stem Cells

Lectins (carbohydrate-binding proteins) are able to distinguish different patterns of glycosylation on cell surfaces. This study investigated the effects lectins from Alpinia purpurata inflorescence (ApuL) and Schinus terebinthifolia leaf (SteLL) viability human leukemia cells (K562, chronic myeloid leukemia; JURKAT, acute lymphoblastic leukemia) mesenchymal stem (MSCs) umbilical cords. In addition, possible immunomodulatory ApuL SteLL MSCs were assessed by determining cytokine levels in cultures. reduced JURKAT (IC50: 12.5 μg/mL), inducing both apoptosis necrosis. For K562 cells, at 50 µg/mL caused a decrease viability, but only 8.8%. Conversely, exerted cytotoxic effect 6.0 apoptosis, while it was not JURKAT. (0.19–100 μg/mL) did viability. Treatment with strongly suppressed (99.5% reduction) release IL-6 MSCs. also this culture supernatant. conclusion, showed potential reduce as well without being toxic them.
